Goose Creek/Tonkawa returned to the field in the second chukker regrouped and ready to play, putting up three consecutive goals for a 3-1 lead. Torres and Gracida responded with single goals and a 3-3 tie at the end of the period.

Circa downs Coca-Cola; Alegria sinks Heathcote
PALM BEACH, FL- International Polo Club -
Circa secured a spot in the Ylvisaker Cup quarterfinals with a 12-10 win over Coca-Cola while Alegria choreographed an unlikely ending to their match with Heathcote for a 12-11 overtime victory Wednesday afternoon at the International Polo Club in Wellington.

Circa trailed Coca-Cola only two times in the first chukker of play in Wednesday’s 4pm contest before Argentine 9-goaler Hilario Ulloa led his team to a 12-10 win and a berth in next Friday’s quarterfinals.

“The team just keeps getting better with every game,” said Ulloa following the match.

In a penalty riddled opening chukker in which ten fouls were whistled by the umpires, Circa managed to escape with a 4-2 lead. Coca-Cola’s Julio Arellano scored the opening goal of the game on a penalty conversion, 1-0. Circa responded with a 40-yard penalty shot from Hilario Ulloa, 1-1. Arellano connected on a 60-yard penalty shot for a 2-1 advantage, but that would be where it would end. Coca-Cola committed some damning fouls in an effort to keep Circa from scoring, putting Ulloa at the penalty line where he converted three consecutive penalty shots for goals. After the first seven minutes of play, Circa led, 4-2. More info...

Coca-Cola wins in OT; Villa Del Lago and Lucchese register Victories
PALM BEACH, FL- International Polo Club -
The first round of play in the 2012 Ylvisaker Cup was completed Saturday afternoon at the International Polo club in Wellington with Coca-Cola, Villa del Lago and Lucchese ringing up wins in the 20-goal competition.

The day opened with Heathcote taking on Coca-Cola, the winner of the season’s two opening tournaments, the Herbie Pennell Cup and the Joe Barry Memorial Cup, and making an early impression by running out to an 8-4 halftime lead before falling 12-11 in sudden-death overtime.

Tommy Biddle gave Heathcote the early led on a 60-yard penalty conversion. A goal from teammate Nick Manifold had Coca-Cola trailing 3-0 before they got their attack organized. Mason Wroe scored Coke’s first goal of the game with Sugar Erskine tallying the tying goal to end the first chukker, 2-2.

The Heathcote defense smothered Coca-Cola in the second while Biddle put on an offensive show. After converting another 60-yard penalty shot, the 6-goaler buried a nearside backhand shot from over 85 yards out. He followed up with a third goal in the chukker for a 5-3 lead. Coca-Cola was shut out. More info...

PALM BEACH, FL- International Polo Club - Audi and Equuleus score wins in Ylvisaker Cup play
Wellington, FL
Two one-goal victories highlighted the day at the International Polo Club in Wellington with Audi knocking off Piaget 10-9 in overtime while Equuleus held on to defeat ERG 12-11 in the opening round of play in the 2012 Ylvisaker Cup.

Although a milestone in the career of any young polo player, the debut of 13-year-old Grant Ganzi on the Piaget team couldn’t slow down the Audi attack as Marc Ganzi (Grant’s father) led his team to a 10-9 win in sudden-death overtime over wife Melissa’s Piaget foursome.

“Marc and I play against one another all of the time,” said Melissa. “We thought this would be a good opportunity for Grant to get some experience at the high-goal level,” she added.

Audi opened play with a pair of goals from Nic Roldan (one from the field and one on a penalty conversion), with Jason Crowder scoring a chukker ending goal to get Piaget on the scoreboard. More info...

PALM BEACH, FL- International Polo Club - Coca-Cola takes Joe Barry Memorial Cup in 11-9 winCoca-Cola scored the first two goals in Sunday’s finals of the 20-goal 2012 Joe Barry Memorial Cup at the International Polo Club in Wellington, and rode on to an 11-10 win over Lucchese with South African’s Sugar Erskine registering seven of the goals.

Erskine scored the first goal of the game from the field followed by a penalty conversion from 9-goaler Julio Arellano for an early 2-0 Coca-Cola lead. Lucchese struggled with its offense as the Coca-Cola defense kept the pressure on from the opening throw-in.

Lucchese 10-goaler Pelon Stirling finally got his team on the scoreboard with a penalty goal to open the scoring in the second chukker, but Coca-Cola roared back with goals from Erskine and Mason Wroe for a 4-1 advantage. Santiago Torres stopped the bleeding for Lucchese with his first goal of the game, but Erskine added a final goal to end the chukker in a 5-2 Coca-Cola lead More info...

Orchard Hill beats Piaget in OT
PALM BEACH, FL-International Polo Club
In a choppy penalty riddled contest between Orchard Hill and Piaget in the semifinals of the Bobby Barry Cup, Lucas Criado broke out of the throw-in in overtime to score the winning goal for Orchard Hill in a 13-12 game that will usher Orchard Hill into Sunday’s noon finals against Audi.

A slow moving first chukker saw both teams combine for a total of three goals, two of them on penalty shots, as Piaget went up, 2-1. Facundo scored the first goal of the contest from the field, but two penalty conversions from Piaget’s Miguel Astrada ended the chukker with Piaget leaving the field after the first period with a 2-1 edge.

Kris Kampsen scored the tying goal, 2-2, on a 40-yard penalty shot, but Astrada answered with his third penalty goal of the game as Piaget went on top of a 3-2 score.
