Is your dog going prematurely gray? Stress may be at play
Stress can make humans turn prematurely gray and now there's evidence our four-legged furry companions may suffer a similar fate.
Young dogs that are anxious or impulsive are more likely to have a gray muzzle than their calmer counterparts, a new study has found. It’s the first research to look at premature graying in dogs, said co-author and Colorado-based veteran animal behaviorist Camille King. More info...

KNOW YOUR BORDETELLA VACCINE
Many boarding facilities and doggy daycares require your companion dog to have the Bordetella vaccine every six months or annually. This requirement may be due to laws (regional, local, or state), the facility’s insurance purposes, or the belief of those responsible. The shortened interval is because the duration of vaccinated immunity to Bordetella bronchiseptica lasts for only 6 to 12 months. The ultimate question is though: “Is your dog ONLY getting the Bordetella vaccine or other vaccines in addition to Bordetella?” More info...

Nonverbal boy with autism shares a special bond with his deaf shelter dog
When stay-at-home mom Brandi Guillet, 42, first laid eyes on Ellie the dog, she knew she had found the perfect pet companion for her 6-year-old son. Connor is non-verbal and on the autism spectrum. Boxer breed Ellie, age 3, is deaf and has been trained to respond to sign language.
“Boxers are known to be great with kids but there is definitely something special about Ellie,” said Brandi, who lives with her family in Cocoa, Florida. “When Connor has tantrums she will stand over him as if to comfort him. When he is upset, Connor will immediately go to Ellie for comfort.” More info...
